Success for the UK at BotN 2017

On the last weekend of April, Barcelona was flooded with medieval enthusiasts as they attended Battle of the Nations 2017 from 29th April to 1st May. The seventh annual HMB hosted World Championships saw 34 nations come together and fight for gold with the UK sending three teams of 5vs5 made up of Battle Heritage, UK, Federation and White Company Fighters.

Team UK2 (Battle Heritage): Evgeny Olechovnic, Nikolaj Malnach, Pasha Truelove, Tim Martin, John Quayle, James Breedon and Mateusz Nowicki

This year, the UK team was stronger than ever, setting records for the sport in this country. Pushing further than ever before and having two of the 5’s teams reaching the semi-finals and the 21’s team coming 4th overall. This saw the UK Team Captain Lukas Kowal, Battle Heritage Chairman & Team Captain Nikolaj Malnach and UKFed Captain Chris Cooper taking the “Will to Win” trophy away with them to celebrate the hard work of the fighters and their support during and in the run-up to the tournament.

It wasn’t just success for the men though, with the UK fielding a 3’s team and some duel entries in the women’s categories for the first time in BotN comprising of UkFed, White Company and mercenary fighters. Although they did not win anything, they fought hard and have shown their improvement over the past two years.

At the end of the month comes the IMCF World Championships, seeing Battle Heritage fighters, including our very own Battle Heritage Women’s team and support jetting off to Denmark to compete to defend their title of world champions.
